Student government spends time allocating money to clubs

No bills were presented to the Student Government this week due to dedicating the meeting to determining the budget for the fall semester.

The Saint Leo room in the J.C. Williams center was packed with members of Student Government and representatives from 22 on-campus clubs.

Student Government spent their three-hour Monday night meeting discussing and debating how much money to allocate to each club for the semester and met on Wednesday for their formal meeting with the intention to officially approve the budget. Due to time constraints, they were unable to finish going through all of the clubs to hold a final vote, which will occur at next week’s formal meeting.

Society of Blessed Theodore Romzha, Ut Unum Sint Society for Christian and Theta Phi Alpha did not send a club representative, so their budget will be discussed and approved at another time.

Clubs present included The American Red Cross Club, Anime Club, Annunciations, Anscombe Society, Board Game Association, The Baronettes, Circus Club, Commuter Student Association, Faith Study Club, The Gadfly, German Club, Latinos for Christ, Our Lady of Sorrows Club, Outdoors Club, Students for a Fair Society, Student Government, Students for Life, Ultimate Frisbee Club and Young American’s for Freedom.

The meeting concluded with the executive branch reminding Senators to only use cell phones as calculators and clocks during the meetings. They also thanked everyone present at the informal meeting Monday night for all of their hard work to create the budget for next semester.
