Love Revealed, a student club at Franciscan University of Steubenville, held their first pancake fundraiser to support a local family in need, selling pancakes buffet-style at a breakfast-for-dinner meal.
Students walking through the JC Williams center on Thursday, Sept. 20 saw the decorations, heard the music, and smelled the pancakes being sold for $5 a plate.
Amanda Brennan, president of Love Revealed and third-year member of the club, was the one who originally came up with the idea to hold a pancake buffet.
“Back home, we do this a lot and it’s a lot of fun,” said Brennan “It gets people excited.”
She said another benefit of the club would be publicity.
“This would be a great way to get our name out there,” she said.
The best part for Brennan was the amount of people that attended.
“We were just really excited that a lot of families came,” she said.
Brennan said that working out the details of the fundraiser was not very difficult, especially because “we were really determined.” She said the school was very willing to assist Love Revealed.
The pancakes and sausage were provided by Chris Cakes of Ohio.
“I’ve used them in the past, and they’ve always delivered great service – they’re amazing,” said Brennan.
Celine Talbot, a member of the club, said she thought the night went well.
“I think it’s a great idea – very family oriented,” she said.
She said her favorite part was “just seeing all the families – it’s all about family, so it’s good to see little kids here.”
The local family that will receive the benefits of the fundraiser wanted to remain anonymous.
“We talked to (the) locals and the community around here – that’s how we found them,” said Brennan, explaining that supporting a local family fit perfectly with the club’s values.
Love Revealed is a club focused on the promotion of marriage and family values through a philosophical stance.
“We want to defend marriage and the family to all people from all walks of life,” said Brennan.
