Thursday, March 3rd, 2010
Seats are still
available on three Franciscan University pilgrimages, all with a
special connection to Pope Benedict XVI.
The Rev. Dave Pivonka, TOR, will lead a 10-day pilgrimage titled "The Best of Austria and Germany," featuring the life of Pope Benedict XVI in Bavaria and the world-famous Passion Play at Oberammergau from May 25 to June 3, 2010. Seeking to mitigate the effects of the bubonic plague, the people of the village of Oberammergau, Germany took a vow in 1633 to perform the "Play of the Suffering, Dying and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every 10 years if God would spare them from the disease. This year will mark the 41st enactment of this extraordinary tradition. The trip will also feature visits to historic cultural and religious sites in Vienna, Salzburg, Pope Benedict's birthplace and Altotting, the "Lourdes of Germany."
From Nov. 11 to 18, the Rev. Richard Davis, TOR, will lead a "Pilgrimage to Italy," traveling between Rome and San Giovanni Rotondo. Along the way, the group will visit Loreto and the "Holy House of Nazareth," Subiaco of Benedictine fame, the tomb of Franciscan St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, the shrine of Our Lady of Grace, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. The week will close with a papal audience (subject to the Holy Father's schedule).
Finally, follow Pope Benedict to the 2011 World Youth Day. From August 7-22, join popular youth conference speaker the Rev. Dave Pivonka, TOR, and a select team for an amazing journey into the living heart of the Church. Starting in Italy, our pilgrims will be guided through Rome and Assisi before heading to the WYD celebrations in Madrid, Spain. Highlights will include a visit to the tomb of St. Francis, St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museum.
