Letters to the editor

Reaction to the election

Dear colleagues, I too am disappointed in last night's defeat.

Our resistance to the threats on life, family, and religious freedom was unsuccessful.

We have corporate abuse, we're still "Americans without culture," we have sky-rocketing health-care costs and we have a President(-elect) who supports drone strikes, torture, and war. We are to be left without just immigration reform and in deporting massive amounts of people, we're destroying families, our religious freedom will continue to be infringed, we're still killing people on death row, we're not tending to the needs of our environment and earth, we're being misled into believing we can have energy independence without pursuing sustainable technologies, we're leaving our people hungry, homeless, uneducated and without work, and of course, the well-being of the unborn is in peril.

Letter to the Editor: In response to "Addressing Pornography"

On behalf of Franciscan University's Campus Counseling Center, I respectfully disagree with your assertion that the pornography problem on campus is ignored. It is true that no public talks regarding pornography have been scheduled on campus. However, pornography is very much a discussed issue in more private settings across campus.

Letter to the Editor: In response to "Traddies vs. Charismatics"

I greatly appreciated hearing from the assistant editor of the Troubadour's rather interesting take on the so-called "debate between Traddies and charismatics." It was insightful and overall a genuine and balanced view of this whole issue which does seem to pervade our campus and is to some extent unavoidable.

I just was a bit put off by the method in which the "Traditionalists" were encouraged to merely "agree to disagree" on these admittedly pressing issue of the way in which we live out the Catholic Faith.

Reading this article several times, I just was painstakingly hoping that one day through the grace of God the Catholic Church will return to order and balance regarding this very strange "debate."
