University chorale performs Handel's 'Messiah'

The harmonies of Handel's "Messiah" resonated through Christ the King Chapel on the evening of April 20 as the Franciscan University Chorale, directed by Paul M. Weber, an associate professor of music and director of the program in organ performed ten excerpts from the composition that focused on the death and resurrection of Christ.

Old and new households coming this fall

As it stands, there are currently 23 women's and 23 men's households on campus at Franciscan University of Steubenville. As of April 27, there will be two new households activating next year, one re-activating and unfortunately two going inactive.

The Rev. Sean Sheridan, TOR, to become sixth University president

sheridanHe has been a theology professor, a pharmacy training manager, and a long-practicing attorney, but the new role of the Rev. Sean Sheridan, T.O.R., is different from all of these: on April 19, Franciscan University of Steubenville announced Sheridan would be its new president.

"I am honored to serve as the next president of Franciscan University," said Sheridan in the university's press statement released on April 19. "It is inspiring and truly humbling for me to be here at Franciscan University with the students who are pouring their hearts into their education and their prayer life, falling in love with God and the Church, and striving to become saints."

Sodexo introduces new meal plans

Franciscan University of Steubenville's food-service provider, Sodexo, introduced students to the upgraded meal plans for the upcoming fall semester.

The changes offered include seven different meal plans ranging with various options of exchanges and points to correspond more uniquely with each student.

Five of the seven meal plans are set up for on-campus resident students at Franciscan while the other two are geared toward off-campus and commuter students.

Franciscan University stands firm in opposition against mandate

Franciscan University of Steubenville's opposition to the revised HHS mandate was readdressed by the school's president on March 13.

After dropping its health insurance policies in May 2012, the Obama administration changed the policies of the HHS mandate. Franciscan finds the changes unsatisfactory due to its requirement of contraceptive coverage.

According to Breitbart News, the new proposals included allowing religiously affiliated hospitals and universities to be exempt from providing contraceptive coverage; insurance companies would deal directly with individual employees.
