The Franciscan University Track Team is currently undergoing preseason workouts to gear up for their Spring 2012 season.
"The team members meet about six times a week to work out together," said Joey Schlueter, a sophomore on the men's team. "Although there are no official workouts as of yet, we are trying to get in shape early on for the season."
The team members meet in groups to train together. Running is not the only item on the agenda-the runners need to be strong in other ways as well. Weight lifting, abdominal workouts, and speed training are all common activities for the weekly routines.
"The team needs to work on all these different areas in order to perform to its maximum potential," said Schlueter. "With perseverance and dedication, we are surely going to have another successful season, starting with the indoor meet at Capital University. We are hoping to grow even more this season, being successful not only in our standings but in remaining true to the University's mission statement."
The team's first official meet is indoors at Capital University. Be sure to come out and support the Barons this season!
