Bioethics to lecture at university

In two free public
lectures, prominent bioethicists will address cultural concerns during
the upcoming Franciscan University Ethical Issues in Suffering and
Death Conference for healthcare professionals on March 26-28.
Germain Grisez, professor emeritus of philosophy and moral theology at Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Md., will give the Henkels Lecture, "What Suffering Is and Why God Allows Evil," on March 26 at 7:45 p.m. in the Gentile Gallery. Grisez is known as the creator of the "new natural law" theory. His books include the three-volume “Way of the Lord Jesus,” an encyclopedic treatment of Christian morality.
Theresa Collett, professor of law at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, will deliver the keynote lecture on "The Value of Life and State Action" on March 27 at 8 p.m. in the Gentile Gallery. Collett has testified before committees of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, as well as before legislative committees in several states. She has served as special attorney general for the states of Oklahoma and Kansas, as well as assisting other state attorneys general in defending laws protecting human life and marriage.
Franciscan University's Institute of Bioethics will host the Ethical Issues in Suffering and Death Conference as part of its mission to help the medical and scientific community apply the Roman Catholic Church's teaching to major bioethics debates.
