The members of Franciscan University’s Student Government were presented with bills from the Baronettes and the Triathlon Club during their weekly meeting on Oct. 16.

Fall Bill 30 concerned providing partial funding for renting a space for the Baronettes to practice due to construction on the Finnegan Fieldhouse. The bill was for $600 to be used for eight practices at the Steubenville YMCA.

While the Baronettes would normally not petition Student Government for money for this reason, Franciscan’s athletic department was unable to assist them financially. The YMCA was the cheapest place they could find to practice.

The Baronettes originally requested a higher sum of money to provide space for more practices, but the amount was cut to $600. The bill was passed unanimously.

“It isn’t the worst thing in the world,” said Baronettes’ co-captain Sarah Sperduto, who is also a student government senator. “We will try to hold a dance as a fundraiser as well. I just wish the athletic department could help us out.”

Fall Bill 29 was a request from the Triathlon Club for $322.50 to be used to order 30 running shirts for club members.

The Triathlon Club failed to send a club member to represent the club in the meeting; however, freshman senator and member of the club Clare McCallen offered to represent the club. Without McCallen’s representation, the bill would have been tabled indefinitely.

The bill was passed with little discussion.

Student Government’s advisor, David Schmiesing, was present at the meeting and spoke at the end, thanking the members in advance for their help with the Hill Top Cleanup event on Oct. 19.
