It’s the end of an era for senior Helen Raines of the Lady Barons Basketball team.

Raines played two seasons for the Barons after transferring to Franciscan University. She averaged 9.1 points per game, 2.7 assists per game, 2.0 steals per game and 2.4 rebounds per game during her time with the team. Helen was selected as a team captain during her senior season.

“(Raines) has brought leadership, toughness and determination,” said Coach Suzy Delaney during Raines’ senior night recognition. “Last season, she was voted the team’s Most Improved Player and she received the team’s Fearless Award.”

Delaney was pleased with Raines’ final performance with the team.

“I thought she was clutch in the game yesterday,” said Delaney. “She made some big free throws at the end of the game – that’s why we want the ball in her hands. She also ended the game with five assists, which speaks to the unselfish nature of her game. We are so proud of Helen and the way she has impacted each member of our team (including coaches) and our Women’s Basketball Program.”

Raines is extremely grateful for having the opportunities placed before her with the program, her teammates and coaching staff.

“The opportunity to play basketball at Franciscan with such a great coaching staff and dedicated teammates was one of the largest highlights during my college career, and I am so thankful for the experiences,” said Raines. “I love where this program has been going and foresee a bright future ahead for the Lady Barons in following seasons.”
